WorkSafe hits race club with eight charges over death of former Hamilton jockey Mikaela Claridge | The Standard

Charges have been laid by WorkSafe over the death of former Hamilton jockey Mikaela Claridge. The 22-year-old died while riding a section of the Cranbourne Racecourse on August 30, 2019. The club has been hit with three alleged breaches of the Occupational Health and Safety Act for failing to ensure, as far as reasonably practicable, people other than employees were not exposed to risks to their health and safety. Another three charges allege the club failed to ensure the workplace was safe and without risks to health. WorkSafe will allege the club failed to maintain the sand trails and ensure it was safe for use, the authority said in a statement.
